Legend Acres receives a grant from KKR to accelerate Legend's Heroes Service Dog Training Program's launch.
Surprise, AZ: Looking to the future and providing unique opportunities for dog training, Legend Acres receive a significant boost to their Legend's Heroes Service Dog Training Program. Legend acres was one of 55 companies selected to receive a grant from the KKR Small Business Builders Grant Program. Legend Acres will use the grant's proceeds to continue developing the Service Dog Virtual On-Demand training program and the Mentor Training program.
Receiving the grant has helped propel this program forward during a difficult time for many small business owners. Kristi Kay May, founder of Legend Acres Dog and Horse Solutions, leads her team into growth and sustainability during this difficult time by working diligently to find new ways to expand and grow her business when things got tough.
Kristi is working towards adapting the company's offering to ensure that she can reach her customers where they are without sacrificing the quality of education or customer support. Legend Acres also provides unique and rewarding career opportunities through their Mentor Trainer Program.

About KKR Small Business Builders (SBB) Grant
In the first round of the KKR Small Business Builders (SBB) program, KKR has awarded $10,000 each to 55 small business owners from a diverse range of backgrounds across gender, race, ethnicity, business industry, size, and geography. The grants will provide financial assistance, hands-on support from KKR employees, and resources from KKR's partner organizations to help the small businesses to maintain day-to-day operations and jobs while also supporting their future growth.
About Legend's Heroes Service Dog Training Program:
Legend's Heroes Service Dog Training Program, offered through Legend Acres Dog and Horse Solutions, will bring an innovative approach to getting psychiatric service dogs to those who need them. Service dogs can help those recovering from PTSD accomplish daily tasks, provide situational assessments, and guide handlers out of stressful situations.
Legend's Heroes program was launched in March of 2020 and consisted of service dog training for service dog teams, including PTSD Service Dogs, Psychiatric Service Dogs, and Mobility Support. The trainers can determine if a person's current pet is appropriate for completing the Service Dog Certification Program or assist with dog selection to meet the criteria.
Through virtual and on-demand courses, participants in the program can complete their own time in a safe space for them.
Upon acceptance into the Legend's Heroes Service Dog Training Program, a participant can have a fully trained service animal under two years and $3000 or less. Traditional programs can take 1-4 years to get a psychiatric service dog in the hands of someone who needs them and can cost up to $15000.
The Legend Heroes Service Training Program is a two-year program consisting of an initial training plan of four canine obedience courses, public access test, and task dog training with follow up sessions over the next year.
